Titleist AP2 2009 vs Titleist AP2 2010?
are the 2009 titleist AP2 forged irons just as good as the 2010 titleist AP2 710 forged iron?
i seen some cheap 2009 ap2’s but i want the new ones, but they cost too much. so are they basically the same? or what?
There is no right response to this question that anyone other than yourself could answer. A “good” iron is all about what feels right to you. Have you hit the AP2? I think its a great club, but you may not.
Here’s a couple rules of thumb for Golf Club shopping:
1. Don’t buy a club without hitting it first. Your pro shop club should have a demo available, if not, see if they can get one from the manufacturer.
2. Don’t be a slave to a brand. i.e. “I only hit Titleist”
3. Get fitted by a PGA professional.
And finally, here’s a question that you should always ask yourself when selecting between models:
“If this years model is so much different than the last one, why didn’t they call it something else?”
I’d say save your money and get the earlier model. The 2010’s may have V-grooves to conform with the new rules. So they won’t be nearly as forgiving out of the rough. If you’re not a touring professional, I wouldn’t get V-grooves at all. Don’t make the game harder than it already is.
The groove rule was changed mainly for touring professionals that were playing the Bomb and Gouge approach. These golfers put less emphasis on accuracy and more emphasis on Long driving. The USGA thought that it was starting to betray the original philosophy of golf.
